1. Do you make a living through Instagram?
Not through Instagram exclusively. Unlike many people who have large Instagram followings, I also have a popular website and followings on other social media channels.
2. How did you become an instagram influencer? Would you recommend your lifestyle to others?
I started 2007 when I sold my house to travel around the world. Before there was an Instagram, I started a travel blog https://everything-everywhere.com/how-to-start-a-travel-blog/. I grew my following via my website and other channels before I started on Instagram.
I don't think anyone should start out with the intent of being an "influencer", especially just pinning your hopes to one platform like Instagram. Travel because you love to travel, but don't start out hoping to make money from it.
3. What does your average day look like?
There really isn't an average day. Everything changes based on where I am and what I'm doing. It makes it interesting, as well as frustrating as it is difficult to develop a routine.
4. Have you had any strange interactions with followers?
Nothing I would call strange. I've had people drive over 100 miles to meet me. I once had someone take an 8-hour train ride to meet me as well. I haven't had anything weird, just people who like to talk about travel.
5. Craziest travel story?
Probably when I was denied entry into the nation of Kiribati and ended up subsequently changing a law. At the time in 2007, Americans needed a visa to enter the country. My visa was ruined when I was caught in the rain in the Solomon Islands. When I was denied entry, I wrote an email which lead to the visa rule being changed a few months later.
